First-Time CISPro Configuration

If you are reading this, we can assume that the application has been properly configured and is running, and that you have logged in with an administrator account. If this is not the case, you should contact ChemSW technical support (EnterpriseSupport@chemsw.com), and consult the installation documents (the 3 MS Word documents whose names begin with "ID") on the root of the CISPro installation CD.

CISPro Global is highly configurable, but it also comes pre-configured for general use. To aid administrators in configuring the application for use within their own organizations, the following topics are suggested as a starting point. The topics are presented in the order in which they should be read, and in which they occur in the setup process.

Configuration: The Configuration topic discusses many settings that can be used to make CISPro Global perform in a way that better suits your organization's needs. Familiarize yourself with configuration options before you proceed to the following sections.
System Configuration: Most of the configuration options that alter the way the CISPro Global application operates (e.g., report creation, unit of measure definitions, vendor setup) are accessed via the System Configuration page.
Configuration Variables: Configuration variables are settings that allow an administrator to alter specific program behavior, such as how material components must be added, or whether containers may be 'undeleted.'
Sites: A site is essentially the top-level entity in which locations, materials, and users exist. The Sites topic provides instructions for creating, accessing, and modifying sites. The Location Tree section under Sites explains how to plan and create the locations that sites contain.
Inventory Groups: Access to locations is granted based on access to the inventory groups to which locations belong. Inventory group creation occurs after Site setup, but can be done before locations are created.
Roles: A role is a set of permissions that determines the level of access provided to users who are assigned to it. Establish roles before creating users, as every user must be assigned to a role.
Users: User accounts are dependent both on roles and on sites. This section explains the user account creation process.

Some of the topics listed here refer to configuration variables and other configuration issues. It may be necessary during setup to move between these sections to complete the setup process.

The preceding sections address the minimal configuration steps required to create users and get them logged in. The following sections are recommended for acquiring a more thorough understanding of how to ensure a successful CISPro Global implementation.

Please note that some features of CISPro Global are only available with the Material Qualification Module. In this Help system, descriptions of such features generally indicate that the Material Qualification Module is required.

Administrators may also want to review the Getting Started for Users topics to gain familiarity with the CISPro interface.
