Configuration > Regulatory Lists

Regulatory Lists are collections of CAS numbers used to identify pure chemicals by regulatory controls. Users with the System permission can view and create regulatory lists, and add CAS numbers to each list as appropriate.

This topic addresses generic regulatory list configuration and management. For help with Ariel-managed regulatory lists, see Ariel Regulatory Lists.

Regulatory List Configuration

When a material is included in a regulatory list, the list name may be displayed on the material's Identity tab. Whether a regulatory list's name is displayed on a material's identity tab is based on what the list's Match Type is, whether the list is being used by the site from which the material is being viewed, and what the material's—and its components'—CAS numbers are.

Regulatory List Match Types

One of the three criteria used to determine whether a material is on a regulatory list (and whether the list name appears on the material's identity tab) is the list's Match Type. A list's match type can be either:

On List if CAS# Found The List Display Name of a list with this match type displays on the identity tab of any material that has either a primary CAS number or one or more components with CAS numbers (or both) when one or more of such CAS numbers are in the list.

On List if CAS# Not Found The List Display Name of a list with this match type displays on the identity tab of any material that has either a primary CAS number or one or more components with CAS numbers (or both) when one or more of such CAS numbers are not in the list.

Configuring a regulatory list consists of three steps: creating the list, specifying the sites at which the list will be used, and adding CAS numbers to the list. Existing lists can be edited and deleted.

1.Select a regulatory list
2.Click the Sites for Code link
3.On the Configure Regulatory Lists for Site page, select a site from the list, and click the Add button*
4.Repeat step 3 for each additional site
5.Click the Regulatory Lists link to return to regulatory list configuration

*Removing Sites to remove a site from the list, select it and click the Remove Selected button.

Add CAS Numbers to a List

1.Select a regulatory list
2.Click the CAS Numbers on List link
3.Add CAS numbers via one of the following methods:

Pull-down Menu

a.Select CasNo > New CasNo from the pull-down menu
b.In the CAS text box, type a CAS number
c.Click Save

Multiple CAS# List*

d.Type or paste a list of CAS numbers (one CAS number per line) into the Add multiple CAS# text box
e.Click the Add CAS List button

*50-Line Maximum The maximum for this text box is 50 lines of text (i.e., 50 CAS numbers). An attempt to add more than 50 lines at once will yield an error message.

4.Click the Regulatory Lists link to return to regulatory list configuration

Delete a CAS Number from a List

1.Select a regulatory list
2.Click the CAS Numbers on List link
3.From the CAS number list on the left, select a CAS number to delete
4.Select CasNo > Delete This CasNo from the pull-down menu
5.Click OK on the confirmation prompt

Edit a Regulatory List

A user can change a regulatory list's List Display Name, Regulatory List Code, and Match Type by selecting the list, changing one or more values, and saving the changes. CAS numbers on a list may not be edited; only adding and removing CAS numbers is supported.

Background Material Updates Certain actions, such as changing a list's Match Type or Regulatory List Code, removing a CAS number from a list, or changing or removing the CAS number of a material or one of its components, may initiate a background material update (this is dependent on the Match Type and CAS numbers that are changed). If it does, affected materials will be marked as pending update. On the Identity tab of such materials, the user may see the status "pending refresh" displayed below the Regulatory Lists. While a material is not pending update, the normal Refresh check box is displayed.

Delete a Regulatory List

1.Select a Regulatory List to delete
2.Select Reg. List Code > Delete This Reg. List Code from the pull-down menu
3.Click OK on the confirmation prompt

Regulatory list functionality is available via the Reglists module. For questions about this module, please contact ChemSW support.
