Constituent Type Materials

Workflows > Materials > Constituent Type Materials

Constituent materials differ from the other material types because they are not packagable, receivable, or dispensable substances.  Constituent materials exist as a means of identifying the most fundamental ingredients of other materials, along with useful information about their properties.

Not in Normal Material Search Constituent materials do not appear in the results for regular, name-based material searches. Nor do they appear in searches by material ID, CAS #, etc. To find constituents, search by Material Type.

To Search for Constituents

1.Open the Material Identity page
2.Select Type from the first search drop-down list (the second drop-down list will automatically be set to Exact)
3.From the third drop-down list, select Constituent
4.Click the Search button

Advanced Search Use Advanced Search to narrow your search by Name, CAS, or other criteria (see Searching).

The Constituent material Identity tab displays regulatory data and identification attributes such as CAS number, EINECS number, CFR Reference , FEMA #, COE #, Color Index, Chemical Reactivity, Material Origin and Function, Chemical Group, Ingredient Class, and Alternate Names. Constituents also have Physical (characteristics), Hazards, Documents, Properties and Structure tabs. Because constituents cannot be received, ordered, dispensed, or have packages, there is no Containers tab.

The constituent material creation process is similar to the process used to create other material types (e.g., specify a type, class, and name), but without the secondary step of creating packages, as constituents can not be ordered or received.

Constituent materials feature some important user-defined elements (defined in system lookup lists) such as:

Material Origin
Material Function
Chemical Group
Ingredient Class

Constituents can be added to materials as components (see Material Components).

Note: The use of Constituent Materials is supported by a separate module that can be enabled or disabled, and is also restricted by a set of permissions, so you may or may not have access to them depending on how your installation is configured. Contact your CISPro Global administrator for more information.
