Scope

Workflows > Materials > Scope

Scope refers to how widely accessible a material is within the entire CISPro Global system. A material's scope setting affects access to the material for the purposes viewing, ordering, etc.

There are four valid material scope settings, which belong to two categories: Local and Global. Assigning any of the Global scopes to a material means that anyone in the system can search for and locate that material. The distinction between the various "levels" of Global scope has no effect on how CISPro Global functions. They are only indicators of the assessment process for the material.

Local

Local scope means that only users from work units within the site where the material was created will be able to "see" that material--whether they are searching, viewing a grid of materials in a worklist, etc.  All materials start their lives with a scope of Local.

When a material's scope is set to Local, users belonging to workunits at other sites can not view, order, or inter-site transfer the material.

Global - Site Reviewed

"Site Reviewed" indicates that someone at the site has checked this newly defined material and believes it is unique.  (Note: A material must be assigned the Global - Site Reviewed scope before it can attain either Global - Assessed or Global - Confirmed status).

Global - Assessed

If there is a user at a higher authority level on material analysis/safety information than the site reviewer, this user can indicate that a material has been reviewed at this higher level by assigning it a status of Global - Assessed.

Global - Confirmed

This level indicates that the Global-Assessed level has been achieved, and that another person has corroborated the Global Assessment process. Constituent materials are created with Global - Confirmed scope and their scope can never change.

Changing a Material's Scope

Scope is always set to Local on new materials, but a material's scope may be changed by a user with appropriate permissions, if it is not locked. When a material's scope is locked, the scope setting is displayed as a link, rather than plain text. To change a material's scope:

1.View the material's Identity tab
2.If the Lock Scope* check box is selected, clear it and click Save
3.Click the scope setting link
4.Select a new status from the drop-down list, and click Save

*To lock the material's scope, select the Lock Scope check box and click Save. This feature may be used by Site administrators to control who is authorized to reset the scope for certain materials.

Note: Constituent materials are created with 'Global - Confirmed' scope, and can only have this or 'Global - Assessed' as their scope setting.
