Configuration > Sites > Workunits > Workunit Accessible Inventory Groups

As discussed in the Workunits and Inventory Groups topics, a workunit is a grouping of one or more users at a site , and an inventory group is a user-defined collection of locations. This section explains the relationship between them.

The Workunit-Inventory Group-User Relationship

Each inventory group belongs to a single workunit, and each user belongs to a single workunit. Each user has a home inventory group and a default location, which can be any location within the home inventory group. The user's home inventory group can be set to any inventory group to which the workunit has access.

As a member of an inventory group, a user potentially has access to all material containers at any location within the group. But a user can also be granted access to other Workunits' inventory groups. In this way, she can manipulate containers that are not within her own Workunit. Ensuring appropriate user access to material containers requires proper configuration of the Workunit-Inventory Group-User relationship.

Configure Inventory Group Access for a Workunit

To ensure proper configuration of inventory group access, first define the Inventory Groups, and then configure access to the inventory groups.

Note that when an inventory group is created, it is automatically added to the accessible list for the workunit to which it belongs. The following steps are used to grant a workunit access to additional inventory groups.

1.On the System Configuration page, click the name of the Site that contains the Workunit whose Inventory Group access is to be modified
2.Click the name of the Workunit to open the Configure Workunit page
3.Click the Inventory Groups link to open the Configure Work Unit Inventory Groups page
4.Select the check box for each Inventory Group to which the workunit should have access

Tip! If the Multi-Site module is off, all Inventory Groups should be selected, because there is only one workunit (the default).

5.Click Save to return to the Configure Workunit page

Note: This is only configuring what Inventory Groups a user within a work unit could access. Each user can be granted view/modify/dispense/requisition permissions for any Inventory Groups accessible to his Workunit.
