Reference > Packages > Defining Packages

1.Select a material
2.Click the Containers tab
3.Click the Suppliers link to open the Configure Packages page
4.From the menu at the top of the screen, select Package > New Package
5.Enter a Product Number or Grade (this value, usually provided by the manufacturer, is required while the require_pack_no configuration variable is set to 1)
6.Enter a Description
7.Select a Packing Group if applicable
8.If the package has a UN Substance ID, select Has UN# from the UN# list, then type the material's UN ID
9.Enter all or part of a vendor name in the search text box and click Search Vendors to load the Manufacturer and Supplier list boxes with matches
10.Select a manufacturer and/or supplier* from the two drop-down lists (CISPro Global includes two pre-configured vendor options—Any  and None—that can be used if real vendor information is not available)

Vendor Search: When the manufacturer and supplier names are not the same, or don’t begin with the same letter, search for the manufacturer name, and make a selection from the manufacturer list, then conduct a new search for the supplier name, and select an option from the supplier list.

11.Click Save

Note: Because every package must have at least one size record, when the new package is saved, a size (package detail) is created automatically by CISPro Global.

12.Set a Minimum Inventory Level if desired
13.Use the Add MSDS link in the Also: section if an MSDS document from this  manufacturer should be associated with the material

*On-the-fly Vendor Creation If the Vendor for which a package is being created does not exist, a user who has the Manage Vendor: Create or Manage Vendor: Modify permissions can click the Manufacturer or Supplier links to open Vendor Configuration. On the Vendor Configuration page, the user can add one or more new vendors, and then click the Back to Packages link to return to package configuration for the same material.
