CAS numbers are validated as they are entered on the Material Identity tab, and on the Material Components page. Validation works as follows:

•	An invalid CAS number is indicated by a red X that is displayed to the right of the CAS# text field.

•	When a CAS number is valid, the red X is not displayed.

Note: CAS number validation only checks that the CAS number consists of as many as 10 digits separated into three groups, and that the check digit is correct. Because material naming is at the user's discretion, no check is performed to verify that a CAS number is assigned to the correct material.
